Central City Chorus presents "Christmas in Venice" on December 15

Central City Chorus, directed by Bryan Zaros, is delighted to announce its first concert of the 2024-2025 season, "Christmas in Venice," featuring works by Gabrieli, Monteverdi and the masters of polychoral music. The concert will be held at St. Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church on West 87th Street between Broadway and West End Avenue in Manhattan on Sunday, December 15 at 4:00 PM.
The polychoral techniques of Venetian music employed by Gabrieli and Monteverdi involved the use of multiple choirs positioned in different parts of a large space, such as St. Mark's Basilica, creating a spatial, antiphonal effect.

New album from Musica Viva NY

New York City's leading chamber choir, Musica Viva NY, releases its new album Crimson Roses: Contemporary American Choral Music on November 22. On its first release for Naxos, Musica Viva NY reveals why it has recently been hailed as a treasured institution. The album showcases the choir's gifts as performers and interpreters and bridges its deep and far-reaching exploration of the full contemporary choral spectrum. Led by Musica Viva NY's artistic director/conductor, Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez, celebrating his 10th year at the choir's helm, 30+ singers and orchestra perform an indispensable compilation of contemporary American choral music by three living composers: Joseph Turrin, Richard Einhorn and Gilda Lyons.
The album opens with the eponymous And Crimson Roses Once Again Be Fair (2018) by Joseph Turrin (born 1947). To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the World War One armistice, Musica Viva NY and others co-commissioned this 45-minute cantata based on powerful poetry of the Great War.

Stonewall offers "C'est Magnifique" on December 7

Chorale will perform its winter concert, "C'est Magnifique" featuring
works by Francis Poulenc, Antonio Vivaldi, Gabriel Fauré and others at Holy
Apostles, 296 9th Avenue, New York, NY.
The Stonewall Chorale was the nation's first
gay and lesbian choir and welcomes singers of all backgrounds who identify as
LGBTQ+. As it kicks off its 48th season, join The Stonewall Chorale for a
concert that blends the traditional and the innovative in classical music.
"C'est Magnifique" includes the two
major works by Poulenc and Vivaldi as well as shorter pieces by Fauré and
Poulenc.
